Changes in membership

Updating contact information

Keep your contact information up to date in our membership register (name, address, phone number, e-mail etc.) and remember to inform us of any changes affecting your membership, if for example you want to resign from the fund, you become self-employed, you retire or move abroad to work. You can notify changes in the fund’s e-services https://tkassa.pam.fi/, by post or call 020 690 211 (Mon-Fri: 10 am-2 pm).

Changing funds

You can be a member of only one unemployment fund at a time. If you transfer to another unemployment fund, we ask you to tell us without delay. If you join a new unemployment fund within one month of resigning from your previous fund, the employment and membership period you have accumulated transfers with you. A further condition for this is that your membership fees have been paid to the previous unemployment fund up to the date you resign. The date of resignation is the date of arrival of your written notice of resignation.

Resigning from the fund

You can resign from the unemployment fund at any time. Notice of resignation must be made in writing. You can send your notice of resignation either by post to PAM Unemployment Fund or in the fund’s e-services https://tkassa.pam.fi/.

Please note that if you wish to resign from the Service Union United (PAM), you must contact the union separately via PAM's digital services. You cannot resign from the union by notifying the Unemployment Fund.

You can be a member of PAM Unemployment Fund whatever sector you are employed in, so if you join a union in another sector, if you want you can remain a member of PAM Unemployment Fund. If you are already a member of the unemployment fund via the union and want to remain a member of the fund, inform us of this by sending a message in PAM’s e-services https://asiointi.pam.fi/.   Then you don’t need to send a separate application to join the unemployment fund.

Becoming self-employed

If you go from employment to self-employment, you can be paid earnings-related allowance if you are unemployed based on the work requirement accrued when you were a wage earner, if the self-employed persons’ work requirement has not been met and it is less than 18 months since your self-employment activity started. You can remain a member of a wage earners’ fund (e.g. PAM Unemployment Fund) for these 18 months or transfer to the Entrepreneur Fund.

You cannot accumulate the self-employed persons’ work requirement in a wage earners’ fund. So it is advisable to transfer your membership to the Entrepreneur Fund at the latest just before your self-employment has lasted 18 months. Members of wage earners’ funds who are self-employed full-time for over 18 months lose their entire accrued work requirement.

The same is true in the other direction. If you go from self-employment to employment, you can be paid earnings-related allowance if unemployed based on the work requirement met during self-employment, if the wage earners’ work requirement has not yet been met. At the beginning of your employment you can remain a member of the Entrepreneur Fund or transfer to a wage earners’ fund. The wage earners’ work requirement does not accrue while you are a member of the Entrepreneur Fund, however.
