How other benefits affect earnings-related allowance
General housing allowance paid by Kela does not affect earnings-related allowance.
If you meet the general conditions for earnings-related allowance and you are still sick or if you become unemployed when your rehabilitation allowance ends, register as a jobseeker with the employment authority. You can send your earnings-related allowance application to the Unemployment Fund two weeks after your rehabilitation allowance ends.
If you are applying for earnings-related allowance for the first time, we recommend that you read the application instructions on our website.
Social assistance only affects your earnings-related allowance if Kela requires the Unemployment Fund to collect an amount corresponding to the social assistance from your allowance. If Kela does not send a collection notice, social assistance will not affect your earnings-related allowance.
Partial early old-age pension does not affect earnings-related allowance. However, always inform us what pension you have been granted. The Unemployment Fund is required to check that the pension does not affect earnings-related allowance.
Home care allowance granted to you personally always reduces your earnings-related allowance. Home care allowance granted to your spouse may also reduce your earnings-related allowance, unless your spouse cares for your child at home and because of that is not in the labour market.
In unclear situations, we recommend contacting our customer service.
