Amount and length of earnings-related allowance

The amount of your earnings-related allowance depends on your wages before unemployment.

Earnings-related allowance is made up of a basic component and an earnings-related component. The basic component is the same for everyone and is the same as Kela's basic unemployment allowance. The earnings-related component is calculated based on the wages for the months taken into account for the employment condition.

The earnings-related component is 45 % of the difference between your daily wage and the basic component of the earnings-related allowance. If your calculated monthly wage is above the maximum limit, the earnings-related component is 20 % of the wages above this limit.

You can estimate the amount of your earnings-related allowance using TYJ's allowance calculator.

If your unemployment continues, the amount of earnings-related allowance decreases gradually. You can read about staggering of earnings-related allowance here.

You can see the number of days paid in the Unemployment Fund's eService.

First select "Decisions" from the top menu, where you will find the section "Days Paid".

The calculator shows the number of different benefit days and also the maximum number of earnings-related allowance days.

Earnings-related allowance is paid for:

  • 300 days, if your work history is at most 3 years.
  • 400 days, if your work history is over 3 years.
  • 500 days, if you are at least 58 years old when you meet the employment condition and have worked for at least 5 years in the last 20 years.

Read more about the maximum length of earnings-related allowance here.

Additional days: Under certain conditions, daily allowances can be paid until the age of 65 after the maximum period has been reached. Read about additional days here.

Earnings-related allowance is recalculated when the 12-month work requirement is met. At the same time, the maximum period for earning-s related allowance begins again.
