Applying for transition security allowance? Register as a job seeker within 60 days of your notice of termination

23.09.2025

Transition security allowance is a benefit paid to unemployment fund members aged 55 or older whose employment has ended due to financial or production-related reasons.

The allowance is a one-time payment equivalent to approximately one month’s salary.

You may be eligible for the transition security allowance if:

  • your employment has ended for financial or production-related reasons
  • you are 55 years or older at the time of your notice
  • you have been employed by the same employer for at least five years prior to the notice
  • you are an unemployment fund member and have registered as a job seeker with the employment authority

Important: If you are applying for the transition security allowance, you must register as a job seeker within 60 days of your notice of termination date. If your notice period exceeds 60 days, you must register during the notice period.

Transition security allowance does not affect your earnings-related allowance

Transition security allowance is a separate benefit from earnings-related allowance, and eligibility for it does not require meeting the membership condition or work requirement. It is sufficient that your fund membership started by the date of your notice of termination.

You are eligible for transition security allowance even if you find new employment immediately after your notice period.

The allowance does not reduce any earnings-related allowance you are entitled to.
