Remember to check your tax card's income ceiling

02.10.2023

For many of our member, the income ceiling of their tax card is at risk of being exceeded towards the end of the year. If the income limit is exceeded, withholding tax will be deducted from the benefit based on the higher additional percentage specified in your tax card.

If you receive earnings-related daily allowance from the Unemployment Fund, we recommend checking the income limit specified on your tax card as well as your income for the year 2023. If you are about to exceed your income limit, you can provide the Fund with a revised tax card for benefits.

You can check your income information from the Incomes Register. You can also easily check the enefits paid by the Unemployment Fund of the Service Union United Unemployment Fund through our eService or from your latest payment notification. In addition, you can view your tax information sent to the fund through the eService.

You can order a revised tax card for benefits from the Tax Administration's MyTax service. When selecting the ”Palvelualojen työttömyyskassa” as the benefit payer, the revised tax card will be sent automatically to the Fund on the next business day. You can also request a new tax card from the Tax Administration by phone (tel. 029 497 001).

Please note that the tax card for benefits is different from a regular income tax card.

Having a revised tax card for benefits is usually recommended even in cases when the income ceiling isn’t being exceeded. With a tax card for wage income, the Unemployment Fund has to withhold a minimum tax of 25 % from benefits, as per the Tax Administration’s instructions. With a revised tax card for benefits, the Unemployment Fund withholds tax according to the revised percentage.
